Conker Class - Term 5
This week (WC 19.05) we ended our science unit 'Materials' with an experiment! We were given a task by teddy to decide which material we should make its umbrella out of. The children showed a range of skills in working scientifically, such as understanding fair tests, making predictions, recording and drawing conclusions from data. They also demonstrated great team work through sharing the responsibilities of conducting the experiment. Well done Conker class!

This week (WC 12.05) we have been learning about arrays and how they can help us understand grouping and adding equal groups. We also found out that some numbers wouldn't fit into an array! Later in the week in RE, we learned about the Qur'an and how it is a holy book of Islam. We found out that the Qur'an is highly decorated to reflect how sacred it is to Muslims. We then thought about what words are special to us, wrote them down and decorated all around them to reflect their special meaning to us.
This week (WC 05.05) we have been looking at families in PSHE. We read a story and discussed the different types of families that featured in it, including making connections to our own families too. We finished off with drawing and labelling our families, showing off just how diverse and wide-ranging families can be! Everyone was keen to share who they had in their family, including pets, siblings, aunties and uncles, grandparents and even friends who are like family!

In English this term, we are looking at narratives! Our focus narrative is 'The Enormous Turnip' and this week, the children were sequencing and orally retelling the story in groups. We will be writing our own alternative versions of the story at the end of the term, so it's important that we are confident with the traditional version first!
Conker class started off the new term with a fantastic trip to visit 'We The Curious' science museum in Bristol! We started the day with exploring the various interactive displays and stations such as construction, animation and learning about our brain to body connections. Then, we watched a planetarium show where we were able to recap our knowledge of space as well as finding out new facts. We finished the day with a workshop all about what life is like for an astronaut, from getting into space on a rocket, to how things like sleeping, moving around and even going to the toilet are very different!
