OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning)
Play is fundamental to a child’s health, happiness, development and well-being. Research has shown that children spend 20% of their time in school playing and this led staff to reflect upon how playtimes could be improved at Wanborough, and in 2024, our OPAL journey began.
OPAL is an award-winning, mentor-supported school improvement programme that is supporting us on a journey to improve the quality of the play experiences at our school. OPAL is the only programme of its kind that has been independently proven to sustainably improve the quality of play in British primary schools and we are excited to be beginning this journey!
We envisage it will take 12 to 18 months to fully develop our play offer. Throughout this time, will be posting regular updates and news about the project as it progresses.
